Four Seconds Ago is an electronic and ambient project formed in 2018 by Periphery guitarists Misha Mansoor and Jake Bowen as an outlet for their shared interest in electronica far removed from the djent-heavy sound of their primary band. Their debut album The Vacancy (2018), released on Century Media via Periphery's own 3DOT Recordings imprint, trades metal for ambient textures, deep synthesis, and groove-oriented electronic production informed by Bowen's prior solo release Isometric (2015) and Mansoor's extensive production and mixing background. A follow-up, 1000 Needles, was subsequently released through 3DOT Recordings.
Formed in Poughkeepsie, New York in 2004, Genghis Tron built an early reputation on their disorienting fusion of blast-beat grindcore and programmed electronic sequences, eschewing a live drummer entirely on their first releases. Their 2006 debut Dead Mountain Mouth on Crucial Blast and the 2008 Relapse Records follow-up Board Up the House pushed cybergrind into challenging IDM and ambient territory. After a decade-long hiatus, the band returned in 2021 with Dream Weapon, recorded with Kurt Ballou, featuring their first human drummer and a more meditative, psychedelic direction.
The Bug is the primary alias of English producer and musician Kevin Martin, who launched the project in 1997 on the Wordsound label and has spent decades synthesizing industrial noise, dub, dancehall, grime, and hip-hop into a singular and confrontational body of work. London Zoo (2008) on Ninja Tune — featuring vocalists including Tippa Irie and Warrior Queen — is widely regarded as the project's definitive statement, capturing the paranoia of surveillance-saturated urban Britain through crushing bass weight and warped reggae rhythms. Martin has also worked extensively with Godflesh's Justin Broadrick under various collaborative names, and his influence on UK bass music and industrial hip-hop has been considerable.
Osaka's Violent Magic Orchestra fuse black metal fury with gabber, hard trance, and industrial noise into a sensory assault unlike anything else in heavy music. Assembled from members of experimental group Vampillia and European collaborators, VMO are notorious for their 5000-watt live shows featuring relentless strobes, digital projections, and corpse paint, as captured on their collaborative album 'Death Rave.'
