A five-piece formed in South London during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, The Karma Effect craft a bluesy, vintage-inflected hard rock sound built around big choruses, Hammond organ, and the raw, soulful vocals of Henry Gottelier. Their self-released self-titled debut (2022) led to extensive festival appearances, and the follow-up The Promised Land on Earache Records unexpectedly broke into the Top 20 of the UK Albums Chart while topping the UK Rock and Metal Albums Chart. A third album, Cruel Intentions, was announced for Earache Records in May 2026.
The Last Internationale are a New York rock band built around Delila Paz's commanding voice and Edgey Pires's guitar-driven songwriting. Formed in the late 2000s, the group developed a sound that connects blues rock, hard rock, folk protest tradition, and modern alternative rock without losing its street-level directness. Their breakthrough period included the album We Will Reign and high-profile touring, with songs that mixed big riffs, rootsy swing, and lyrics concerned with labor, power, inequality, colonial violence, and personal defiance. The band's music is often most effective when Paz moves from restrained soulfulness into a full-throated roar, giving political writing a physical charge rather than turning it into lecture. Pires supplies the grit, using riffs and slide-inflected lines that keep the songs tied to rock and blues foundations. The Last Internationale can sound vintage in texture, but the attitude is contemporary and restless. Their catalog is less about nostalgia than about reclaiming older protest-rock tools for a present-tense fight. They stand out by refusing to separate volume from conscience, making hard rock that treats anger, tenderness, and resistance as parts of the same voice.
The Midnight Ghost Train formed in Topeka, Kansas in 2007 as a power trio drawing from delta blues, gospel, and stoner rock to create a high-energy, riff-driven sound with southern grit. Their 2012 album Buffalo on Karate Body Records earned widespread acclaim and was named Best Stoner Rock Album of 2012 by Heavy Planet magazine. After signing to Napalm Records, the band released Cold Was the Ground (2015) and Cypress Ave (2017), cementing their reputation for raw, road-honed heavy blues. The group performed at Roadburn Festival in 2013 and have since retired from regular activity.
The Paradox burst onto the rock scene with viral momentum, their debut performance video amassing hundreds of thousands of views and rapidly building a following of over 730,000 social media followers within weeks of their launch. Their explosive live debut at When We Were Young Festival confirmed the hype, showcasing a band with arena-level energy and polished, hook-driven modern rock. The Paradox represent the new era of rock bands built for the digital age while delivering the visceral impact of a traditional live act.
The Pretty Reckless, fronted by actress-turned-rock-vocalist Taylor Momsen, defied every expectation leveled at a celebrity-fronted band by delivering genuinely excellent hard rock fueled by Momsen's commanding voice and producer Kato Khandwala's sleek production. Their albums 'Going to Hell' and 'Death by Rock and Roll' produced multiple number-one rock singles, making Momsen the first female artist to have five chart-toppers on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. Rooted in classic rock traditions but delivered with modern edge, The Pretty Reckless have earned their credibility the hard way: through great songs and relentless touring.
Stockholm and Malmo's Pretty Wild channel the spirit of 1980s Sunset Strip glam into unashamedly melodic, high-energy hard rock driven by Ivan Hoglund's powerful vocals and the band's knack for infectious, hook-laden songwriting. Albums like 'All the Way' and 'Interstate 13' deliver a potent dose of sleaze rock and arena-ready choruses that pay homage to the glory days of Def Leppard and Motley Crue. Their unapologetic embrace of the glam metal aesthetic and party-ready attitude makes them a refreshing throwback in an era of genre-blending experimentation.
THE PRIMALS are the official rock band of Final Fantasy XIV, formed by the game's sound director Masayoshi Soken to perform heavy metal arrangements of the MMORPG's beloved soundtrack. The band transforms the orchestral and electronic compositions of FFXIV into thundering live rock performances, featuring Soken on guitar and vocals alongside a full band that brings the game's epic battle themes to concert stages. Their sold-out performances at Yokohama Arena and Makuhari Messe have demonstrated that video game music can fill the biggest venues when given the full rock band treatment.
The Violent Hour is the new project of former Butcher Babies vocalist Carla Harvey and Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante, blending old-school rock and roll, indie, alternative soul, and heavy metal into an eclectic, genre-defying sound. Their 2025 debut EP features an all-female lineup and guest appearances from guitar legends John 5 and Zakk Wylde, with tracks spanning from punk-tinged metal to 70s Southern rock aesthetics. Harvey's reinvention beyond the Butcher Babies framework, paired with Benante's versatile musicianship, creates a fresh creative partnership unconstrained by either artist's previous work.
The Virgin Marys, more commonly styled The Virginmarys, are a Macclesfield rock band whose music blends hard rock muscle, punk directness, and alternative rock grit. Formed in the 2000s around Ally Dickaty and Danny Dolan, the group first built momentum as a raw three-piece before later operating as a leaner duo. Their debut album King of Conflict brought wider attention in 2013, pairing sharp riffs and pounding drums with songs that sounded angry, melodic, and road-tested. Follow-up releases such as Divides and Northern Sun Sessions continued to lean on urgency rather than polish, with Dickaty's voice carrying both rasp and vulnerability. The band's best work feels rooted in frustration, class pressure, damaged relationships, and the need to push back against numbness. They are not a retro exercise, even when classic hard rock and grunge influences are clear; the performances are too wired and immediate for that. The Virgin Marys work because the songs have impact without excess. Guitars are thick, drums are direct, and choruses arrive with enough lift to keep the anger memorable. Their identity is built on sweat, economy, and the belief that a small rock band can still make a large noise.
