Bauru, BR · 2021–present · split-up
Ódio Indomável was a one-person project run entirely by an artist known only as N., conceived as the spiritual successor to their prior band Fit of Rage. Over two 2021 releases — the Garra da Escuridão demo (March) and the single Semear o Terror (December) — N. delivered a savage crossover of thrash metal and hardcore punk, all savagely riffed and self-recorded.
Manaus, BR · 2024–present · active
Ódio Pago came together in Manaus in late 2023, pulling from groove metal, thrash, nu-metal, and hardcore to build a dense, aggressive sound anchored by the five-piece lineup of David Feitosa, Hian Sátiro, Matt Queiroz, Samuel PS4, and Saulo Bernardino. Their 2024 Doença da Sociedade rehearsal demo captures the band in early formation, with a raw energy that points toward a heavier and more refined direction.
Elortondo, AR · 2014–present · split-up
Óxido came out of Elortondo, a small agricultural town in the Santa Fe province of Argentina, and embodied the spirit of what happens when heavy metal and punk collide in places far from the capital's scene infrastructure. Formed in 2014, the band operated in the lineage of Argentina's long tradition of metal-punk crossover — a tradition rooted in the 1980s when the distinctions between heavy rock, hard punk, and nascent metal were blurred in the hands of working-class musicians throughout the country's interior. Elortondo itself has a surprisingly deep metal history for a town of its size: the local heavy and punk communities organized themselves as far back as the 1990s under the banner of the 'Agrupación Heavy Punk,' a collective known as 'Brigadas Metálicas del oeste de Elortondo,' fostering a culture of underground music that persisted across generations. Óxido emerged from this lineage, mixing the rhythmic belligerence of punk with the riff-driven directness of classic heavy metal. Bands like Motörhead, the Brazilian pioneers of the metal-punk crossover, and the rawest strains of Argentine rock duro all factor into understanding their sound. Elortondo's isolation from the Buenos Aires scene forced a DIY ethic that can be heard in the raw, unpolished energy characteristic of interior province metal bands who never had access to major studios or industry contacts. The band split up before fully developing a documented catalog, but their presence reflects the vitality of Argentina's provincial underground, where metal survives on passion alone.
