Absent in Body is a Belgian post-metal supergroup formed in 2017 by Amenra guitarist Mathieu Vandekerckhove and vocalist Colin H. van Eeckhout alongside Neurosis vocalist Scott Kelly and former Sepultura drummer Iggor Cavalera. Their debut album Plague God, released in 2022 on Season of Mist, melds post-metal, drone, sludge, and EBM into five sprawling compositions that draw on each member's history in confrontational, ceremony-driven heavy music. The project is deliberately collaborative and sparse, functioning as a slow-moving, ritualistic extension of the members' respective primary bands.
Asilo was a Buenos Aires sludge, drone, and doom metal collective that built a catalog of slow, crushing releases across the 2010s, including the split with Neh Czneg (2013), Comunión (2014), and Desintegración (2019). Their approach leaned toward extended, corrosive compositions that placed them firmly within the heavier end of Argentina's underground doom scene.
Bertran de Born is a drone/doom/sludge metal band from Bauru, Brazil, formed in 2015. The band released their debut demo "Malebolgia" in December 2015, an independent release listed on Encyclopaedia Metallum.
Bong of Depression is a Brazilian doom, black metal, and drone project formed in 2024, with member Niili handling instruments alongside drummer Guna. The project released a split with Mourning Souls through Podreira Records in January 2024 and followed it with the full-length 'Æternal Doomed' in August 2024, exploring bleak atmospheres across drone, doom, and dark ambient terrain.
Dead Rooster is a Buenos Aires metal band formed in 2012, rooted in drone and doom metal before evolving toward a rawer blend of black metal and punk, drawing comparisons to Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Venom, and Discharge. Their debut EP "Witches of Belial" was recorded in November 2011 at Music Factory Studio in Buenos Aires and released on cassette in 2012 through Coche Bomba Records, later appearing digitally via The Return Recs in 2013.
Formed in Chicago in 2005, Locrian is an experimental trio built around the intersection of black metal, drone, noise, and electronics. The band—Terence Hannum, André Foisy, and Steven Hess—has released a series of critically noted albums on Profound Lore Records, including Return to Annihilation (2013), Infinite Dissolution (2015), and End Terrain (2024), following a seven-year recording hiatus. Their densely layered approach draws on krautrock, 1990s death metal, and avant-garde electronics in equal measure, placing them at the extreme edge of experimental metal.
Solo project of Anna C. Chaos, operating from Mairiporã, São Paulo since 2007, working in atmospheric sludge, drone, and doom metal. She writes, records, mixes, and masters all material herself, with the debut release Entrails recorded in 2009 and a prolific output that reached the 11th full-length Filled by Empty Spaces in 2020 and the 13th album Mourning Carnivals From Now On in 2023 on Time to Kill Records. The albums Belong to Nothing (2018), Deserts of the Soul, Filled by Empty Spaces, and To Become Unreal (2021) form a connected sequence she titled the Tetralogy of Solitude.
One-man sludge/drone/funeral doom project from Brasília, with all instruments performed and recorded by Maurício Caio, who also operates the bands Absent, Burial Temple, and Kurgan. The project released the pandemic-era compilation Deep Ecology on July 25, 2022, followed by the four-track EP Paradise Long Gone in 2025; lyrical themes focus on geological and ecological catastrophe rather than human experience.
Ätherisch was a short-lived drone metal solo project from Osasco, São Paulo, active for roughly a year before dissolving in mid-2020. The project, handled entirely by Douglas Sinsuk, released two albums — "Der Triumph des Todes" and "Das Ende der Existenz" — both titled in German and rooted in existential and death-focused themes, channeled through heavy, minimalist drone soundscapes.
