Voivod formed in Jonquière, Quebec, Canada in 1982 and evolved from raw, Motörhead-influenced thrash on their 1984 debut War and Pain into one of heavy metal's most distinctive and intellectually rigorous bands, fusing science fiction imagery with progressive dissonance and avant-garde experimentation.
